Due to recent regulatory changes, you will be able to use contactless payments a total of 5 times in a row before you will be asked to enter your PIN.
The changes are being made to help keep your money safe and help prevent unauthorised usage of your card.
Are there any exceptions?
Yes. Anywhere you cannot physically enter your PIN will not count towards the total e.g. public transport turnstiles or buses that accept contactless card payments.
What are the contactless limits?
From 15 October 2021 the contactless payment limit has been increased to £100. However, the rollout to the hundreds of thousands of terminals in the UK will occur gradually. If the machine has not been updated from £45 to the £100 limit, then your contactless payment may be declined. However, you can still make the payment via chip & PIN.
