You can now review and submit your Countingup clients’ VAT returns from your Accountant Hub. To do so, make sure you have completed the below steps:
1. Create an Agent Services account with HMRC
You'll need an Agent Services account to proceed. This is different to HMRC's online services for tax agents prior to Making Tax Digital (the original Government Gateway). If you don't have one yet, create an Agent Service account here.
2. Use your Agent Services account to connect your Countingup Accountant Hub to HMRC
You must use your Agent Services account credentials to connect Countingup to HMRC. Do not use your previous credentials linked to the original Government Gateway.
Check you’ve used the right credentials in your Agent Services account by signing in. Check the list of connected softwares. If Countingup is on the list, you’ve used the right credentials. If not, disconnect Countingup from HMRC and then reconnect with your Agent Services account credentials.
3. Your client is signed up for Making Tax Digital
Your client must have signed up for Making Tax Digital and received the HMRC confirmation email after signing up (this can take up to 72 hours).
4. Your client has authorised you as their accountant
You can check if you have been authorised by your client in your Agent Services account. If you can view your client's VAT certificate and data, your client has given you authorisation.
If you have completed the above steps and are not able to view your client’s VAT returns in the Countingup Accountant Hub, please contact the HMRC VAT Online Services Helpdesk.
