When preparing the VAT return for your client you will be updating transactions to make sure they have the right VAT treatment and rate so the VAT return is correct.
When you have reviewed all the transactions and are done with the preparation of the VAT return you'll want to know if any changes happened, that impacted the VAT return between now and the time you submit the VAT return.
In order to be notified of these changes once you are done with the preparation of the VAT return you can save it as a ‘draft’ version. When viewing the VAT return simply click the ‘Save draft’ button. Note that you cannot save a draft return if you still have open and unsubmitted returns from a previous period.
This draft version is the VAT return as at the time you saved it. You will not be able to update the transactions within the return unless you cancel the draft.
You’ll be notified of any changes that would impact the VAT return when you have a draft saved. For example, if your client changes a VAT record for the relevant VAT period, you’ll be notified next time you view the VAT return.
In case you need to do more changes, or include changes that have happened since you’ve saved the draft, you can cancel the draft. Any changes made since you saved the draft will be included in the return for this period and you will be able to update the transactions in the VAT return section.
If you don’t want to include the changes in the VAT return and want to submit the VAT return as you’ve saved it then you can defer the changes. You will be able to submit the draft VAT return.
If there are multiple open returns, you can only save a draft VAT return on the oldest VAT return.
