Late claims come from changes that impact a previously submitted VAT return.
There are two types of changes:
- Updating the VAT rate and/or treatment of transactions in a previously submitted VAT return.
- Adding new transactions in a previously submitted VAT period.
When your client has late claims, they are included in the VAT return by default.
We assume that all the late claims have been dealt with the submissions not done through Countingup. We only consider late claims from VAT periods submitted by Countingup.
You can decide to exclude them by unticking the late claims box on the VAT return summary. This will defer the late claims to the next VAT period.
The impact of any late claims on the VAT liability is shown on the VAT return summary.
You can view the impact of a late claim on each relevant box on the VAT return summary, and as an adjustment at the top of the transaction list when viewing box details.
Please note - any interest or penalty charges incurred due to late claims/filings will not be estimated beforehand in the system. These are simply accrued in accordance with HMRC notices.
